"It was a wonderful party. Neighbors greeted each other and exchanged information
with neighbors. It was an opportunity to meet and speak with elected officials and
community leaders." said Lester Allen. The entertainment was the highlight of the
day. The K3G Dancers performed Shava Shava from the movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
(Happiness & Tears). This movie is available with English subtitles for non-Hindi
speaking people. It can be rented or purchased on tape or DVD from Bollywood Video on
Hillside Avenue and 187th Street in Jamaica, NY. What made it fascinating was the fact
that none of the dancers was of Indian or Hindu heritage. There were many in the audience
that were very impressed. "Those children bring me back to my roots when I see them
dance. It makes me feel proud to be of Indian origin and living in Hollis Park
Gardens." said Swamipersaud Harnarain. The dancers wore traditional Indian clothing
and danced in bare feet. The movements were traditional. When asked why they chose to
perform Shava Shava, dancer Christian Foley who attends Immaculate Conception School said,
"It's all about loving your parents!" This went hand in hand with the family
theme of the day of "loving your neighbor!"
